Change the Air Filter on your VW

Transcript:

In this video I’ll show you how to change the air filter on your Jetta, Golf, Passat, or Sportwagen TDI.

So the air filter is located over here on the right side of the motor—it has a little air filter symbol on it. Unlike most fixes on a TDI the only tools you need for this one is a Phillips Head Screwdriver, one of the smaller ones and there’s going to be eight screws we’re going to need to remove.

Now these screws won’t come out. They’ll come out and then they’ll stop—you want to leave them there, because they’re not made to come out of the housing. Don’t forget to unscrew the screws in the back.

Once you have the screws out, take the old filter out. This one actually looks pretty good—I’d gotten the car used and figured it needed a new filter. We’re going to replace it to reset the service interval anyway.

Place the new filter in white foam side down and squish it into place so it’s snug. Then, replace the cover and tighten all 8 screws. After this, you’ll be set for the next 40,000 miles, which is the standard air filter maintenance interval. If you have any other questions send us an email at sales.idparts.com and check out the idparts post at post.idparts.com—we’ve got how tos and blog articles there. Thanks for watching.
